Nelson shared the thrilling news about the Provo Utah Temple: it’s set to undergo a remarkable transformation through demolition and reconstruction starting after the dedication of the Orem Utah Temple. The existing temple will officially close its doors on Saturday, February 24, 2024, marking a new chapter and opening the door for a fresh, state-of-the-art facility. Members in the temple district are encouraged to utilize nearby temples during this transition, ensuring they can continue participating in sacred ordinances.
The upcoming Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be a breathtaking addition, perched on Provo’s east bench at the foot of the stunning Rock Canyon. With its spectacular mountain views, this new temple will be surrounded by beautiful landscapes, including a lovely cascading water feature accompanied by a vibrant array of flowers, shrubs, and trees that celebrate the area’s natural charm. Just across the street lies the Provo Missionary Training Center, creating a spirit of dedication that invigorates the entire community.
Spanning approximately 163,000 square feet on a generous 17-acre site, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will house six instruction rooms, ten sealing rooms, and two baptistries—all designed to create a warm and inviting space for temple patrons. The renaming on February 20, 2024, will highlight its geographical significance, with the original structure closing soon after. As demolition and reconstruction get underway, we can look forward to the temple’s grand completion expected in late 2027.
