Exciting News: The Teresina Brazil Temple

On April 2, 2023, during the 194th General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the announcement of the Teresina Brazil Temple took center stage. With a stunning design and a prime location, it marks a significant moment for members in Brazil.

Location and Size

The Teresina Brazil Temple will be built on a 3.6-acre site situated at the intersection of Avenida Raul Lopes and Rua Des. Pedro Conde, Noivos, Teresina, Piauí. With a spacious floor area of approximately 25,420 square feet, it promises to serve the spiritual needs of many.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The anticipated groundbreaking ceremony is set for April 18, 2026. Elder Ciro Schmeil, the First Counselor in the Brazil Area Presidency, will preside over this momentous occasion, paving the way for this cherished facility to come to life.

Design Features

The exterior of the Teresina Brazil Temple will feature beautiful granite, providing a majestic appearance that reflects the significance of its purpose. A notable aspect of its design includes a single attached central spire; however, there will be no gold-leafed Angel Moroni adorning the top.

Elevation and Architectural Rendering

Set at an elevation of 213 feet, the Teresina Brazil Temple will be a remarkable sight against the backdrop of the local landscape. The public was given a glimpse of its architectural rendering on February 23, 2026, showcasing the elegant lines and design elements intended to inspire awe.

Brazil’s Commitment to Temples

With over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints and more than 2,000 congregations across the country, the announcement of the Teresina Brazil Temple is a testament to Brazil’s deep-rooted commitment to faith. Presently, dedicated houses of worship exist in Belém, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and São Paulo. Additionally, several more temples—including Belo Horizonte and Campo Grande—are either announced or under construction.

A Sacred Purpose

President Russell M. Nelson eloquently stated, “Jesus Christ is the reason we build temples. Each is His holy house.” This sentiment underscores the profound importance of having additional Temples, which greatly enhances the ability to fulfill spiritual needs.

As the construction of the Teresina Brazil Temple progresses, it promises to be a cherished addition to the local landscape, further enriching the spiritual fabric of the area. The anticipation surrounding its completion reflects the excitement that many feel as they look forward to its service and purpose.
