The Nashville Tennessee Temple was announced on November 9, 1994, by the Prophet Howard W. Hunter, marking the beginning of an exciting venture in the region. The groundbreaking took place on March 13, 1999. Elder John K. Carmack, president of the North America East Area, presided over this event, which was attended by around 1,500 members from central Tennessee and southern Kentucky. On that rainy spring day, amidst the challenges of turning wet soil, Elder Carmack made thoughtful parallels to Jacob from the Old Testament, who exemplified patience in his own journey.
The public open house occurred from May 6 to May 13, 2000, attracting 24,300 attendees eager to explore the newly built Temple. Just days later, on May 21, 2000, the Temple was dedicated by Apostle James E. Faust, with a total of 6,052 attendees present during the four sessions.
Architectural Features
The Nashville Tennessee Temple is built on a generous 6.86 acres and features an exterior finish of imperial Danby white marble. Its single attached end spire is topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which further enhances its striking design. Spanning 10,700 square feet and built at an elevation of 653 feet with a height of 22 meters, the Nashville Tennessee Temple is a single story, making it distinct in appearance.
Interior and Facilities
Inside this beautiful Temple, there are two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry designed to accommodate various functions. It stands as the first Temple constructed in the city of Nashville and the second one built in Tennessee, following the Memphis Tennessee Temple, which was dedicated just a month earlier.
