Before its recent transformation, the site was home to the Provo Tabernacle, which served the community for many years. Tragically, an accidental fire in 2010 led to its destruction. However, this unfortunate event prompted significant renovations and led to the creation of the Temple that exists today.

On May 12, 2012, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland dedicated the site, marking the beginning of extensive construction work.
