A Brief History
Officially announced on October 1, 2011, during the Semiannual General Conference by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, the evolution of the Provo City Center Temple is a story of resilience and transformation. Monson remarked on the significance of such spaces, emphasizing, “No Church-built facility is more important than a Temple.”
Following groundbreaking and site dedication on May 12, 2012, by Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland, preparations began to take shape, leading to the public open house held from January 15 to March 5, 2016. During this event, more than 800,000 individuals toured its exquisite interior, marveling at various architectural enhancements and the thoughtful design that characterizes the building.
Architectural Features
The Provo City Center Temple blends historical charm with modern design. Built entirely of red brick, its defining feature is a towering central spire flanked by four corner spires, proudly topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni that stands 13 feet tall. The entire building spans 85,084 square feet and reaches a height of 150 feet, nestled comfortably on 5.6 acres at an elevation of 4,547 feet.
The Temple encompasses four levels—two above ground and two below. The lower levels consist of the baptistry, dressing rooms, bridal room, and offices, while the upper levels feature endowment rooms, sealing rooms, and a spacious chapel, alongside additional offices.
Areas of Functionality
Providing spaces for various religious and communal functions, the Provo City Center Temple includes three instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and one baptistry, designed meticulously to facilitate sacred ceremonies and gatherings.
To accommodate visitors and attendees, the site features a basement parking garage with 245 spots and an additional 50 parking spaces on the main level. Across from the Temple stands a Victorian pavilion, connected via a basement corridor, enhancing accessibility and providing a setting for reflection and engagement.

On March 20, 2016, the Provo City Center Temple was dedicated by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks, who expressed gratitude for the educational institutions in the valley and emphasized the importance of enlightening and motivating individuals in their respective pursuits.
Originally, the site housed a tabernacle, which played a crucial role in the community until an accidental fire in 2010 led to significant renovations that transformed it into the breathtaking Temple we see today.
