Nestled in the bustling heart of Provo, Utah, at 50 South University Ave, the Provo City Center Temple stands as the 150th dedicated Temple in operation. This remarkable site boasts a rich history and an architectural elegance that captures the imagination of all who encounter it.
A Vision Realized
The journey to the creation of the Provo City Center Temple began with an announcement by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the Semiannual General Conference on October 1, 2011. In his inspiring words, he emphasized the importance of Temples in the lives of members, stating, “First, may I mention that no Church-built facility is more important than a temple.” His vision set the stage for a significant transformation in the area.
Following the announcement, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on May 12, 2012, led by Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland. The build was not without its challenges; before its conversion, the site was home to a tabernacle that tragically burned down in 2010 due to an accidental fire. However, this setback paved the way for a much-anticipated renovation and the eventual emergence of the new Temple.
Architectural Splendor
The Provo City Center Temple’s architectural design is nothing short of stunning. Covering 85,084 square feet and built to a height of 150 feet, its prominent red brick exterior is adorned with a striking central spire, complemented by four corner spires. Atop the Temple sits the Golden Angel Moroni, a 13-foot figure placed on March 31, 2014, that adds to the skyline’s elegance.

The interior of the Provo City Center Temple comprises four levels—two above ground and two below. The lower levels house essential facilities such as the baptistry, dressing rooms, and bridal room, while the upper levels feature endowment rooms, sealing rooms, lobbies, and offices. A total of three instruction rooms and five sealing rooms provide ample space for various ceremonies and activities.
One unique feature of the Temple is its basement parking garage, accommodating 245 vehicles. This convenience ensures ease of access for those who frequent the area, particularly in a thriving business district.
A Momentous Opening and Dedication
Prior to its dedication, the Provo City Center Temple opened its doors for a public open house from January 15 to March 5, 2016. Over 800,000 individuals took the opportunity to tour the stunning interior before the official dedication took place on March 20, 2016. During the dedication, Prophet Dallin H. Oaks expressed gratitude for the educational institutions in the area, from Brigham Young University to the Missionary Training Center, acknowledging their positive impact on the community.
