Nestled in Provo, Utah, at 50 South University Ave, the Provo City Center Temple stands as the 150th dedicated Temple in operation. This impressive edifice is not just a tribute to faith but also a remarkable showcase of architectural design and community history.
A Historical Transition
Originally serving as a tabernacle, the building met with an unfortunate fate in 2010 when an accidental fire led to its destruction. However, this tragedy paved the way for a significant transformation. On October 1, 2011, during the Semiannual General Conference, President Thomas S. Monson announced plans for the Provo City Center Temple, emphasizing the crucial role of Temples within the faith. He stated, “First, may I mention that no Church-built facility is more important than a temple.”
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 12, 2012, officiated by Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland, marking the start of a new chapter for the historic site.
Architectural Features
Completed and dedicated on March 20, 2016, by President Dallin H. Oaks, the Provo City Center Temple is a stunning representation of modern and traditional architectural elements. The exterior is clad in red brick and features a breathtaking central spire, surrounded by four corner spires. Topping it all is the majestic Angel Moroni, a striking 13-foot figure that graces the building’s pinnacle, placed on March 31, 2014.
Covering a total area of 85,084 square feet, the Temple’s design includes four levels—two above and two below ground. The lower levels house vital facilities such as the baptistry, dressing rooms, bridal room, and offices, while the upper levels contain endowment rooms, sealing rooms, lobbies, and a chapel.

Built on 5.6 acres, the Temple includes a parking garage with space for 245 vehicles, along with 50 additional spots on the main level. This thoughtful planning accommodates the needs of all who engage with this beautiful site.
Adding to the experience, directly across from the Temple lies a Victorian pavilion. This charming addition features a basement that connects to the Temple’s own basement, creating a seamless flow between these two locales.
