Nestled in the heart of Provo, Utah, the Provo City Center Temple stands as the 150th dedicated Temple in operation. Located at 50 South University Ave, this magnificent building is not only an architectural beauty but also a profound testament to faith and community spirit.
The Journey to Dedication
The timeline of the Provo City Center Temple is marked by pivotal events. On October 1, 2011, during the Semiannual General Conference, it was announced by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. He emphasized the vital role such facilities play in sealing relationships for eternity, highlighting the deep spiritual significance they carry.
The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland, took place on May 12, 2012. This monumental day set the stage for the transformation of the site, which had previously been home to a tabernacle that suffered significant damage due to an accidental fire in 2010.
Following the restoration, a public open house ran from January 15 to March 5, 2016, attracting more than 800,000 guests who toured the interior, marveling at its design and purpose before the dedication.
Architectural Mastery
The exterior of the Provo City Center Temple is adorned with red brick, showcasing a striking central spire surrounded by four corner spires. Atop the main spire stands a 13-foot statue of the Angel Moroni, which was placed on the Temple on March 31, 2014.
With a total area of 85,084 square feet and a height of 150 feet, this Temple is an impressive sight against the backdrop of Utah’s picturesque landscape, sitting at an elevation of 4,547 feet.
The Temple comprises four levels—two above ground and two below. The lower levels house the baptistry, dressing rooms, and offices, along with a bridal room. The upper levels feature endowment rooms, sealing rooms, lobbies, and additional offices.

The Provo City Center Temple is thoughtfully designed to accommodate various sacred functions. It includes three instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and one baptistry.
For those visiting the area, the Temple is conveniently located in Provo’s business district, making it accessible for those who wish to explore the surroundings. Adjacent to the Temple is a Victorian pavilion, complete with a basement that connects to the Temple’s own lower level, enhancing the architectural harmony of the space.
Parking is made easy with a basement garage offering 245 spots, along with 50 additional spaces on the main level.
A Legacy of Service
Before its current incarnation, the original tabernacle played a significant role in the area’s history, hosting General Conference sessions as far back as 1886 and 1897. The dedication of the Provo City Center Temple on March 20, 2016, by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks marked a new chapter. He expressed gratitude for the educational contributions of nearby institutions such as Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University, aligning the Temple’s purpose with the mission of enlightenment and service to others.
