Built on 8.28 acres, its exterior is crafted from reinforced concrete, featuring a distinctive finish with a 16-inch thick white cement aggregate cast stone. A central spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue is one of its most recognizable features.

The Temple offers four instruction rooms, seven sealing rooms, and a baptistry, facilitating a variety of important ceremonies. Notably, it was the first Temple constructed with a central spire, echoing the ancient Nephite Temple design.

Renovations and Modern Enhancements

The most recent renovations, which took two years to complete, were culminated in a rededication on June 4, 2017, by Apostle Henry B. Eyring. Improvements included adding an extra exit for the Bride and Groom’s room and a spacious waiting area for weddings. Essential updates were also made to electrical systems and other facilities, enhancing the overall experience.

Among its transformations, the original three reflection ponds were converted into flowerbeds, giving way to a stunning waterfall feature as part of the significant landscaping renovation in 2011.

Historical Significance

As the first Temple built in Idaho and the only one dedicated by Prophet George Albert Smith, the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple holds a unique place in religious history. It is also notable for the live acting presentations of the endowment that were held for many years.

During construction, large lava rock was discovered on-site and creatively utilized for the basement walls, showcasing the area’s natural beauty. The Temple’s exterior was completed in 1941, but the finishing touches on the interior took an additional four years due to World War II delays.
