The journey began on October 3, 2021, when President Russell M. Nelson, the Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the building of this splendid temple. Its design and stature promise a dazzling spiritual sanctuary for the faithful and curious alike.
A Grand Scale
Located on an expansive 17-acre site, the new Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will dwarf its predecessor, which occupied just 15 acres. This increase in size allows for greater accessibility and enhanced facilities, ensuring that everyone can find solace within its walls. Speaking of walls, the temple will be clad in stunning granite, exuding elegance and permanence.
Iconic Architecture
The temple boasts a single attached central spire that will reach a magnificent height of 265 feet 6 inches. While this striking spire will not feature the iconic gold-leafed Angel Moroni on top—currently in storage—it will definitely stand tall as a beacon of faith, symbolizing devotion and hope for community members.
A New Community Hub
One exciting detail to note is that the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will not share a parking lot with a meeting house, ensuring a focused space dedicated to personal reflection and worship. However, a convenient parking lot will be available across the street.
Completion on the Horizon
Construction officially kicked off on February 24, 2024, and it’s expected that the temple will welcome its first visitors by late 2027. With an impressive 163,000 square feet of sacred space, the temple will be the 6th completed in Utah and is sure to become a central hub for worship, education, and community gathering.
