Nestled in the heart of Provo, Utah, the Provo City Center Temple stands as the 150th dedicated Temple in the world, providing a space for profound spiritual experiences. Located at 50 South University Avenue, Provo, Utah 84601, this remarkable building has a rich history and stunning architectural features that make it a noteworthy addition to the city.
A Historic Transformation
Originally serving as a tabernacle, this site suffered an accidental fire in 2010 that led to its significant renovation. This transformation was officially announced on October 1, 2011, during the Semiannual General Conference by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. He shared the importance of Temples, stating, “First, may I mention that no Church-built facility is more important than a temple.” This emphasis on the value of Temples highlights their role in sealing relationships for eternity—a central tenet in the beliefs of many.
The groundbreaking for the renovation took place on May 12, 2012, presided over by Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland. After years of dedicated work, the Provo City Center Temple was opened to the public for tours from January 15 to March 5, 2016, drawing in more than 800,000 guests who marveled at the newly restored interior.
Architectural Brilliance
The architectural design of the Provo City Center Temple is striking, featuring a classic red brick exterior complemented by a central spire surrounded by four corner spires. Topping it all off is the stunning Angel Moroni, a figure that stands 13 feet tall with a gold leaf finish—symbolizing hope and divine guidance. This iconic figure was placed atop the Temple for the first time on March 31, 2014.
This impressive building spans 85,084 square feet and rises to a height of 150 feet, set against an elevation of 4,547 feet. The layout includes four levels—two above ground and two below. The lower levels host the baptistry, dressing rooms, offices, and bridal room, while the upper levels feature endowment rooms, sealing rooms, lobbies, and additional offices.
Convenient Amenities
In addition to its beautiful architecture, the Provo City Center Temple provides functional amenities. It features a basement parking garage with 245 spots and an additional 50 parking spaces on the main level, catering to visitors and attendees alike. Across from the Temple, a charming Victorian pavilion with a basement connects to the Temple’s lower level, enhancing the overall experience.

The Provo City Center Temple was officially dedicated on March 20, 2016, by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks. In his dedicatory prayer, he expressed gratitude for the educational institutions in the valley and the righteous efforts associated with them. This dedication emphasizes not only the importance of the Temple itself but also the environment of enlightenment and service surrounding it.
