Tijuana Mexico Temple: A Glimpse into Its Significance
The Tijuana Mexico Temple stands as the 149th operating Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located at Paseo Del Rio 6832 Esquina Campestre Oriente Col 3 RA Etapa Rio Tijuana 22226, Tijuana, Baja California, this site has become an important space for many individuals.
History and Dedication
The journey towards the construction of the Tijuana Mexico Temple began when it was announced on October 2, 2010, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during General Conference. Following the announcement, a significant event took place on August 18, 2012. The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred, presided over by Benjamin De Hoyos, drawing around 2,000 attendees.
The public open house that followed offered an opportunity for the community to explore the facility. Running from October 13 to October 28, 2015, the event attracted approximately 70,000 guests, eager to see the new Temple in person.
The dedication ceremony, held on December 13, 2015, was led by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf. His words were heartfelt as he expressed gratitude, saying, “As we approach Thee in prayer, O God our Eternal Father, we lift our voices in thanksgiving and love on this historic day to dedicate the Tijuana Mexico Temple unto Thee. Our hearts reach out to Thee in faith and prayer. This Temple is an answer to the prayers of Thy faithful people, and a fulfillment of Thy promises to them. We are jubilant and our hearts are filled with praise to Thee.”
Design and Architecture
A Blend of Styles
The Tijuana Mexico Temple spans 33,367 square feet and occupies an area of 9.4 acres. Its height reaches 151 feet, sitting at an elevation of 172 feet. The exterior design features precast concrete cladding, complemented by a mixture of frosted gold and carved, textural clear glass, highlighted by accents of green terracotta.
Architectural Details
One distinctive feature includes a fountain, constructed with precast concrete and local cantera stone, adorned with Mexican hand-painted tiles. This choice reinforces the hacienda architectural style present throughout the Temple.
Interior Elements
Inside, the Temple showcases an array of beautiful materials. Marble staircases and wrought iron railings complement dark wooden doors and exquisite millwork. Vibrant patterned tiles are seamlessly integrated with stone floors adorned with elements from China, Spain, and Italy.

Original artwork graces the interiors, including murals that reflect the desert and coastal landscapes of the region. Unique rugs, painted with Spanish colonial patterns and colors, add character to the interior spaces. Even the railings and flooring embody a Bougainvillea flower motif, which harmonizes with the window designs and landscaping outside.
Facilities Offered
The Tijuana Mexico Temple is equipped with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, catering to various spiritual needs.
