Discovering the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple

Located at 742 N 900 E in American Fork, Utah, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple stands as the 49th dedicated Temple in operation within the LDS Church. This impressive edifice plays a significant role in the spiritual journey of many.

Timpanogos Mountain Of The Lord

On October 3, 1992, the announcement for the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple was made, igniting excitement among members of the faith. Just over a year later, on October 9, 1993, groundbreaking and site dedication took place, led by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.

The public open house, which ran from August 6 to September 21, 1996, was an extraordinary event, drawing over 679,217 individuals who toured the Temple. This remarkable turnout showcased the deep interest in and appreciation for the Temple’s significance.

Dedication and Features

The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple was dedicated over a series of days, from October 13 to October 19, 1996, again under the direction of Gordon B. Hinckley. This event marked an important milestone in the lives of many within the faith.

In terms of its dimensions and architecture, the Temple spans an impressive 107,240 square feet and reaches a height of 190 feet. It is built on a generous 16.7 acres at an elevation of 4,764 feet. The exterior features sierra white granite, complemented by art glass windows and striking bronze doors. Architectural details include a single attached end spire adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, installed on July 17, 1995, in a ceremony attended by about 20,000 people.

Facilities and Layout

The layout of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple includes four instruction rooms, eight sealing rooms, and one baptistry, designed with an adaptive floor plan that closely mirrors that of the Bountiful Utah Temple. It is also the second Temple established in Utah County and the ninth Temple built in the state.

Inscription and Symbolism

One of the notable inscriptions on the Temple is “Holiness to the Lord,” prominently displayed twice on the exterior—once above the east windows and again etched into glass near the west entrance. This phrase encapsulates the essence of what the Temple represents to many.

The Land’s Significance

The land on which the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple stands was originally designated as church welfare property, further emphasizing the connection of faith to the community.

The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple is not only a significant site for those of the faith but also a remarkable feat of architecture and design, reflecting the dedication and devotion that have gone into its creation and continued operation.
