Those residing in Grand Forks, North Dakota, would undertake a grueling 16-hour journey to the temple in Chicago. In contrast, members from Minot drove 14 hours to Cardston, Alberta, while those in Rapid City, South Dakota, traveled about 7 hours to reach Denver. Such lengthy trips were especially taxing during the winter months. The establishment of the Bismarck Temple has undoubtedly been a great blessing for the local faithful, allowing easier access to sacred programs and ceremonies.
A Memorable Dedication
On September 19, 1999, the Bismarck North Dakota Temple was dedicated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, marking a historical moment not just for the Bismarck North Dakota Temple, but for the state. Interestingly, this was a first for President Hinckley, who had never set foot in North Dakota before. Even with his extensive travels around the globe, this was the only state he had yet to visit.
