Visit the Fresno California Temple by LDS Temple News
On January 8, 1999, an exciting announcement sparked joy in the hearts of many: the Fresno California Temple was officially on its way! Just a few months later, on March 20, 1999, the community gathered for a heartfelt groundbreaking ceremony filled with hope and anticipation. Elder John B. Dickson led the ceremony, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey that would bring families and friends together in faith.
After much hard work, the doors opened for a public open house from March 25 to April 4, 2000, and what a celebration it was! Visitors came from all around to experience the temple’s stunning beauty first-hand. The exterior is crafted from lovely white Sierra granite, giving it a striking look that shines in the California sun. Topped with the angel Moroni statue, the temple’s single spire stands tall, inviting all to come and feel the peace that lies within.
Inside, the Fresno Temple is designed as a welcoming haven, offering two instruction rooms, a two-stage progressive room for learning, two elegant sealing rooms for weddings, and a lovely baptistry. It spans a generous 10,850 square feet, allowing for plenty of space for gatherings, reflections, and celebrations. Surrounding the temple, you’ll find charming picnic tables and lush green fields, making it perfect for families to spend time together after attending services.
Found at 6290 North Valentine Avenue, the Fresno California Temple is a special milestone as the fourth temple built in California and the first in the Central Valley. It highlights the rich connection California has with the history of the Church, stretching back to significant events like the arrival of the ship Brooklyn in 1846 and the courageous march of the Mormon Battalion.
Elder Dickson beautifully captured the spirit of the day when he said, “From the days of the sailing of the ship Brooklyn to San Francisco Bay in 1846 and the forced march of the Mormon Battalion, California has taken a key role in the history of the Church. This is another of those great days.” His words sparked excitement about the Church’s growth and the many inspiring chapters still ahead.
Reflecting on the Book of Mormon, Elder Dickson shared, “What a blessing it is to have this other testimony of the Savior amidst the unbelief of the 20th and 21st centuries.” He reminded everyone of their connection to Heavenly Father and the vital role families play in His loving plan.
The Fresno California Temple is more than just a beautiful building; it symbolizes the love and closeness that can be found in family relationships. Whether you’re attending a special ceremony, learning more about your faith, or simply enjoying time with loved ones in its peaceful surrounds, the temple offers a warm embrace to all who visit. It truly stands as a beacon of hope, reminding everyone of the joy that comes from building eternal families and nurturing lasting bonds!
