The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on November 13, 2010, led by Elder Claudio R.M. Costa. The anticipation surrounding the Temple was palpable, culminating in a public open house that ran from January 18 through February 15, 2014, which attracted an impressive 407,020 attendees. The Temple was ultimately dedicated on March 2, 2014, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, although the dedicatory prayer was given by Henry B. Eyring.
Architectural Features
Covering an area of 15.38 acres, the Gilbert Arizona Temple features an exterior finish of precast concrete panels, creating a modern yet timeless aesthetic. Its architectural design includes a single attached end spire topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which was installed on May 15, 2012, further enhancing its visual appeal.
The Temple spans an impressive 85,326 square feet and reaches a height of 195 feet, making it a striking presence in the landscape. The art paintings within the Temple are created by renowned artists such as Alan Fullmer and Anne Bradham, who blend photography and oil painting with impressionistic styles to capture the essence of the Temple against desert skies.
The chandeliers and light fixtures, manufactured by Swarovski Architectural Lighting, feature designs that incorporate the agave plant and flower, representing the Tree of Life. The interior doors, crafted from white oak, add warmth to the space, while bronze hardware complements the overall aesthetic, creating a cohesive design theme.
