The story of the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple started on April 5, 2020, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced its construction. Fast forward to August 21, 2021, when Elder Randall K. Bennett led the groundbreaking ceremony, reminding everyone present to take this day to build emotionally and spiritually within their homes and families.
Mark your calendars! The temple’s public open house is set for August 16 through August 31, 2024, offering a chance for everyone to experience its splendor before its dedication on September 15, 2024, by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf.
Set upon 5.8 acres, the temple showcases a stunning exterior finished with granite cladding sourced from Portugal. Its architectural design features a strikingly elegant single central spire, which stands proudly at 125 feet and is complemented by a serene elevation of 1,076 feet.
Inside, the temple spans an impressive 32,240 square feet and is beautifully adorned with Crema Ella marble from Turkey, accentuated by lush green carpeting patterned with soft gold. The entry and waiting areas are graced with exquisite nylon rugs, inviting all who enter to feel a sense of tranquility.
The celestial room, with its organic leaf pattern, offers a peaceful retreat, while the sealing and celestial rooms feature stunning crystal chandeliers that cast a warm glow with frosted glass and brass accents—perfect settings for cherished moments.

It was also the backdrop for significant events in Latter-day Saint history, including the translation of the Book of Mormon by Prophet Joseph Smith in Oakland Township and the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood by John the Baptist in a nearby forest.
