Discovering the San Diego California Temple
The San Diego California Temple holds a significant place in the heart of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not only is it the 45th dedicated Temple of the Church, but it also serves as an architectural marvel and an important Temple for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A Historical Overview
The journey to the San Diego California Temple began on April 7, 1984, when it was publicly announced. A major milestone was reached on February 27, 1988, when the groundbreaking and site dedication took place, led by the Prophet Ezra Taft Benson. The Temple is built on 7.2 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds.
Architectural Features
One cannot help but admire the unique architectural design of the Temple, which features two main towers, each surrounded by four smaller spires. Topping it all off is a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue that captivates all who see it. The exterior finish, made of marble chips in plaster, complements the stunning design.
Dimensions and Facilities
Covering a total area of 72,000 square feet, the San Diego California Temple stands tall at a height of 169 feet. Its elevation of 338 feet allows it to offer breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Inside, there are four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a baptistry, providing ample space for various sacred activities.
Future Events
Looking ahead, the Temple will undergo a re-dedication on August 23, 2026. Prior to that, the public open house is scheduled from June 18, 2026, through July 11, 2026, excluding Sundays. This open house will allow more people to experience this magnificent site.
