Get Ready for the Salt Lake Temple Open House: What You Need to Know

Exciting announcements are coming from Salt Lake City and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regarding the highly anticipated Salt Lake Temple open house scheduled for 2027. This extraordinary event will offer the public a unique opportunity to explore the magnificent Salt Lake Temple, which has been renovated and enhanced over the past few years.

Dates to Remember

The open house will take place from April 5 to October 1, 2027. During this period, individuals and families can enjoy guided tours of the Salt Lake Temple. Following October 1, access will be limited to church members who hold active temple recommends. This is a rare chance to experience the beauty and intricacy of the Temple prior to that transition.

Anticipating Record Visitors

Millions are expected to visit Salt Lake City throughout this lengthy open house celebration. The Church anticipates attracting between 3 million to 5 million guests, equating to approximately 20,000 to 29,000 visitors each day. This substantial turnout will be the largest in the history of any open house hosted by the Church. Significant preparations are in progress to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.

Preparations and Logistics

The Church is collaborating with city officials to devise plans capable of managing the influx of visitors touring the Temple. They are anticipating crowds reminiscent of the 2002 Olympic Games, where around 70,000 people were in the city daily, albeit for a much shorter duration.

To improve accessibility, an app will be launched in late August or early September 2026, allowing attendees to book their tours in advance. To ease transportation, the Church has partnered with UTA for ticket holders to use TRAX, Frontrunner, and bus services to reach downtown. Additionally, a designated park-and-ride lot will be established at South Temple and Redwood Road, complete with shuttle service to Temple Square.

Exclusive Previews

Before the public open house starts, church employees will receive complimentary UTA passes, and nearby businesses and residents will be invited to tour the Temple in March 2027. This community engagement will allow local residents to appreciate the renovations before the grand opening.

The Tour Experience

The tour will commence at the Church’s Conference Center, located just north of Temple Square, and will lead visitors underground to the Temple. The tour duration is expected to be between 60 to 80 minutes, followed by additional time inside Temple Square. Visitors will also have the chance to explore new statues and other facilities within the vicinity.

Special missionaries will be called to serve as guides, enriching the experience with insights and knowledge about the Temple and its significance. The entire adventure is likely to take several hours, making it a fulfilling day for everyone.

Special Activities and Attractions

In the interim, the Church is setting up Easter displays to engage visitors, as well as gearing up for its biannual general conference in April and October. These events will contribute to the vibrant atmosphere surrounding the Salt Lake Temple as it prepares for its momentous reopening.

As the dates approach, keep an eye out for further updates and information on booking your tour. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Salt Lake Temple like never before!
