The presence of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oregon dates back to 1887, when early settlers began moving to the area. Today, Oregon is home to approximately 154,000 members of the faith, spread across more than 300 congregations. This growing population reflects the rich history and deep-rooted beliefs of its members.
Architectural Overview
Located at 3701 Corporate Way in Springfield, the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple occupies a 10.5-acre site. This impressive 30,000 square-foot facility features a single attached central spire that rises to 120 feet. The elevation of the Temple is 429 feet, giving it a prominent position in the landscape.
Inside, the Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, designed to accommodate the needs of those who frequent this spiritual space. Flora within the Temple grounds is dominated by Dogwood and Laurel flowers, adding to its beauty.
Groundbreaking and Upcoming Events
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 29, 2022, presided over by Elder Valeri V. Cordón. Following that, a media day was organized on April 20, 2026, allowing select guests to preview the Temple. Tours were scheduled for April 21 and 22 before the anticipated public open house.
Dedication Ceremony
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast at 2:00 p.m. The dedication signifies an important milestone in the spiritual journey of many within the region.
Significance of the Temple
The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple will be the third of its kind in Oregon, joining the operating Temples in Medford and Portland. According to President Nelson, “Temples are a vital part of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness,” highlighting their importance in the lives of the faithful.
